Megan E Labonte (aka Hoopmaster Sass) hooping at our fundraiser

It has been a while since I have posted, mostly because we have all been busy with our various lives, but things are mooving along with the project and I wanted to post briefly to let y’all know how things are going…

Our first fundraiser raised nearly $1000, thanks so much to everyone who contributed! Besides the art auction we had wonderful vegan pizza from Cafe Evolution, live music that culminated with several afro-beat musicians jamming some tunes and lots of dancing, while Megan Labonte led some hula hooping out in the parking lot.

Our vegan bellydancing week was lots of fun, with visiting bellydancer Amethyst helping us raise another $100 towards the bus. We found out there is a local vegan bellydancer too, named Shaina. You can hear Shaina and Amethyst interviewed on Vegan Radio.

Currently we are looking at some buses and coming up with some new fundraiser ideas. There will be a concert or two this summer. Other ideas are Vegan Bus Bingo and a hula hoop building workshop. If you have any ideas or would like to contribute in some other way please contact us!

Thanks to our Fundraiser Contributors!!

The Good Vegan Egg

I am honored to be featured on the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary’s website as this month’s “Good Egg”. I have been friends with co-founders Jenny Brown and Doug Abel for some time now… Jenny tells the story in the “good egg” article… and their energy is inspiring. Three years ago they bought some land and a farm house in Woodstock, NY with a vision to start a farm animal sanctuary. Since then they have started a non-profit, drummed up volunteers and donations, built barns, and peopled the farm with beautiful pigs, goats, cows, chickens, turkeys, roosters, dogs, cats and chickens.

It has been an honor and a privilege for me to contribute my photographs and scrambled tofu to their wonderful sanctuary. I look forward to the vegan bus bringing visitors to the farm, and to spreading their message throughout the driveable world. please visit their site, contribute to their cause, and check out this month’s “Good Egg”.

Welcome to the Vegan Bus!

the vegan bus

welcome to the vegan bus, our bran new little website! this is a project i have dreamed up after going to the burning man festival last year. i hope to gather a group of friends and comrades to purchase/obtain an old school bus, convert it to run on vegetable oil, trick it out with vegan-related art, and then drive it to burning man 2007!

after burning man the bus will be used to tour around north america with activists, going to schools and events spreading the vegan message in a positive way. no images of slaughtered animals, no videos of foxes being mangled by leghold traps. the bus will draw attention through the use of art, positive images of farm animals, and our crew of performers, educators, and happy well-adjusted vegans. i imagine a vehicle that will draw curious people wherever we go, and spark many conversations that have the potential to open minds and change hearts. we will also of course have literature on board to leave with people to help them make the changes they will be inspired to make!

so far we are still in the planning stages, but we have a few people on board and lots of interest. if you would like to be involved you can contact me through this website or join in our discussion forums on tribe.net. this website is brand new and will be evolving over time, and there will be much more information available here soon!

go vegan – for the animals, for the planet, for fun and for adventure! get on the bus!!!
