The New Orleans Vegan Examiner

On the beat…

Examiner.com was a news website that had virtual hubs in 60 major cities, and used local journalists to report on subjects they were passionate about. They were live from 2008-2016, and reported reaching 47 million unique users monthly at their peak .

When I moved to New Orleans in 2010, I applied and became the “New Orleans Vegan Examiner.” I lived in New Orleans for three winters, and wrote articles on animal welfare as well as recipes and other fun stuff. One of my proudest moments — I wrote an article about which local breweries had vegan beer, and influenced the NOLA brewery to change their filtering process so their beer became vegan!

Unfortunately the Examiner closed shop in 2016, while I wasn’t paying attention, and most of the articles I wrote were lost. I had previously saved my best writing and republished it on my own web site. The articles below are the ones that I am most proud of. I think they are all timely and I hope you enjoy them!

Photo is of me outside of Café Bamboo in 2010. It was New Orleans first vegan restaurant, inside a bar (of course), and it has since closed.
