Photographs ot Turkeys living at Farm Animal Sanctuaries

Male turkeys are called gobblers after the noise they make to attrect hens, the females. The dangly appendage on top of their head is called a snood, and the wattle hangs from its chin. The appendages change colors based on mood. When the tom, or male turkey, wants to mate, they turn red. If a turkey is scared, they turn blue.

Turkeys can be feisty, curious, and can even be affectionate towards humans. I enjoy photographing them. Most U.S. farm animal sanctuaries host a Thanksgiving event to honor turkeys, and feed them trays of squash and cranberries and pumpkin pie.
