Raquy and The Cavemen Fundraiser: Saturday September 13th! by vegan busdriver

raquy-web.jpg

The Vegan Bus is very excited to announce a very special concert featuring Raquy and the Cavemen in our fine city of Northampton, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 13, 2008. Raquy will also be giving an All-Levels Dumbek Workshop earlier that day.

Raquy and the Cavemen from Brooklyn, NY bring traditional Middle Eastern Music and Modern Drumming to a heady peak. Raquy has traveled to and immersed herself in the musical cultures of the Middle East, Egypt and India. Raquy performs with the Dumbek (Arabic hand drum) and the Iranian Kamanche, which is similar to a violin.

“The love that each band member has for their instrument is especially evident when they are all on stage. Find one of their shows and be enriched, encouraged and energized.” ~MSN Music Review

Raquy's All-Levels Dumbek WorkshopSaturday September 13 at 5pm at First Churches 129 Main St, Northampton, MA 01060

Raquy will be teaching an all-levels Dumbek workshop with something to offer inquisitive beginners and seasoned players alike. Just being around her wonderful energy is worth the price of the workshop, if you ask us. Learning Dumbek technique from one of the baddest ass players around is like frosting on the vegan cupcake!

Raquy Danziger, a world-renowned performer and teacher of Middle-Eastern drumming, has taught and performed worldwide, including P.A.S.I.C (Percussive Arts Society International Convention), the American University of Cairo, and numerous other events and festivals.

She has developed her own system of notation and of teaching the dumbek (Middle-Eastern goblet drum, her specialty) and used that system in her comprehensive instructional kit, "Dumbek Fever", which includes an instructional DVD, a book and a play-along CD.

All that and VEGAN too! Find out more about the indomitable Raquy at www.raquy.com

This dance will not be traditional cane, but instead will be an earthy tribal style of dance and music. Some bellydance class experience is helpful, but if you are a new beginner, you are welcome to jump in and try since the dance will be taught in easy-to-understand sections! You must bring your own cane or stick. Cost $30 (50% will go to the Vegan Bus!)

The choreography is a variation of a group dance performed in the DVD ElectroBelly, in which Amethyst co-stars with her partners Shanti and Astarte. Some bellydance and improvisational experience is required for this fast-paced dance, although the step combinations will be taught in sections in a clear and understandable way.
